Professor Glenn Withers AO
Professor of Public Policy, Crawford
School, Australian National University
Glenn Withers is Professor of Public Policy in the Crawford
School at the Australian National University. Glen was
previously the Chief Executive Officer of Universities
Australia. Prior to this he was Professor of Public Policy at The
Australian National University and at the Australia and New Zealand
School of Government. He has published numerous books and articles
in economics and public policy.
Professor Withers has also held major positions in government
including as Head of the Economic Planning and Advisory Commission
reporting to the Prime Minister and as Chair of the National
Population Council. He has chaired national public inquiries into
population, infrastructure and immigration and was Chair of the
Migrant Skills and Qualifications Board.
Professor Withers has also been adviser to major Australian
businesses and business groups, such as the Business Council of
Australia, to international bodies such as the OECD and World Bank
and to overseas governments. He is a Harvard graduate, has taught
on the Faculties of Harvard and Cambridge, and was made an Officer
in the Order of Australia for development of the Australian
immigration points system.
