Russell Caplan
Company Director
Russell Caplan was born in Melbourne in 1946 and graduated in
Law from Melbourne University in 1968. He joined Shell in the same
year.
Russell's career with Shell has spanned many geographies and
many disciplines. He has worked in Australia, the UK,
Europe and the USA.
His responsibilities have included sales and marketing,
strategic planning, business development, general management and
executive directorship, across the upstream, downstream, and
corporate sectors of the business.
Russell returned home to Melbourne in January 2006 to take up
the position of Chairman of Shell in Australia, from which he
retired in 2010, after 42 years with Shell In addition to his role
on the board of CEDA, Russell is a non-executive director of Orica
Limited and of QR National Limited.
He is Chairman of the Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust and
Chairman of the CRC for Contamination Assessment and Remediation of
the Environment. He also sits on the board of the Australian Cancer
Research Foundation.
Russell has been married since 1968 to Eva and they have two
sons, Adam and Michael.
