SERIES TWO OVERVIEW

Series two will consider the issues raised and develop a considered approach to the discourse that needs to happen now; to shape the policy for this State, with an ever-increasing international focus. Drawing on the national CEDA resources including the CEDA Chief Economist for direct input and linkages to the national CEDA research project will add depth to the Series and put WA issues front of mind for national consideration.

The Inventing the Future Initiative: Shaping WA from 2010 to 2050 commenced in March 2010 with the support of eleven sponsor organisations. It is envisaged that the partner organisations will continue support in 2011/2012 to sponsor 1 of the 5 proposed events and 1 of the Trustee roundtable workshops associated with the Series.

In 2011/2012, CEDA WA proposes to build on the Inventing the Future initiative to include input into longer-term projects in cooperation with the CEDA National research agenda:

  • Reform Agenda for WA: recommendations for future WA Governments which takes into account the changes needed to address emerging population, water, energy, infrastructure and food security pressures.

  • West Australian Economic Development Research and Policy Hub: Giving a WA focus to policy and research concepts from applied researchers that have been reviewed and tested with senior decision makers before the output is presented at CEDA events and also the broader public. Creating a dialogue from the relevant National CEDA research and WA research topics.

In addition to the five major Inventing the Future forums on Food, Water, Population, Infrastructure and Energy linking to the CEDA national research agenda, CEDA WA proposes to host a short trustee workshop immediately following  ( 2 -3 days) each of the five half day events, hosted by the sponsors for each of the five events in the organisations' boardroom.

In this workshop, key recommendations and policy questions from the forum will be distilled; as well as research questions tabled and a stakeholder management plans completed.
