Women in Leadership
Women in Leadership
A decade into the 21st century, Australia is still coming
to terms with equity in the workplace.
For Australia to compete effectively and take full advantage of
the skills and talents of the entire workforce, gender equality is
essential.
While the data tells us that the number of Australian women
occupying senior roles in the public and community sector is
increasing, women overall remain disappointingly under-represented
in leadership roles in the corporate sector.
Only 10.7% of executive management roles in ASX 200 companies
were held by women in 2008, compared with 12% in 2006 according to
Equal Employment for Women in the Workplace Agency (eowa)
Australian Census of Women in Leadership.
This begs the question: Why are we going
backwards?
CEDA's Women in Leadership series aims to
advance the cultural and organisational change required to
recognise women as leaders and help to accelerate the flow of women
into leadership and senior management positions.
The series will raise awareness of the effects of gender
imbalance in Leadership (on Boards, within corporations and in the
broader workplace) and support talented women in their leadership
journey.
It will showcase personal career journeys to illustrate and
explore best practice strategies for effective and sustainable
career progression.
