In 2010, the Australian Work and Life Index asks who wants to work more, who wants to work less, and what are the implications for the workforce of the future? What are the prospects for increasing the hours that older Australians work? We also explore the issues of holidays: who takes them, who stockpiles them, and how does this affect work-life outcomes?

EVENT OVERVIEW

How much should we work? - Launch of the Australian Work and Life Index 2010

As Australia seeks to increase participation in paid work, how much do Australian workers want to work? Join CEDA in partnership with Safework SA to hear answers to these questions as we host the national launch of new research investigating recent experiences of workers from workplaces across Australia.

How much should we work? Working hours, holidays and working life: the participation challenge. The Australian Work and Life Index 2010 is the latest annual national survey of work-life interaction amongst working Australians from the Centre for Work + Life at the University of South Australia.

The report analyses the March 2010 survey of 2800 workers who answered questions related to work-life balance and their use of leave, and draws upon four consecutive years of AWALI data to examine the policy implications of work-life patterns in Australia.

The Australian Work and Life Index (AWALI) commenced in 2007 and provides a unique national bench-mark of work-life outcomes by sex, age, geographic location, employment characteristics and other social demographics.

The national launch, is hosted by CEDA and the AWALI industry partners SafeWork SA and the Western Australian Department of Health. AWALI is part of an Australian Research Council Linkage project.
