Energy and climate policy continue to dominate the national policy agenda. As critical economic issues for Australia, they demand clear, non-partisan ideas and policy solutions.

Australia's Nuclear
Options
November 2011 |

Australia is at a critical moment
in determining its energy future. Energy demand is forecast to rise
substantially with continued economic and population growth while
the energy sector already requires extensive infrastructure
renewal. Meanwhile, rising commodity prices and major policy
changes are challenging the viability of traditional sources of
energy.
CEDA is undertaking a series of policy perspectives on three key
energy related issues including nuclear energy
and renewables and efficiency and research and
innovation, which will then be consolidated in an overarching
growth report to be released in the second half of 2012.
The first policy perspective, Australia's Nuclear
Options, explores nuclear technology and its capacity to
assist in meeting Australia's energy requirements in a carbon
constrained environment. This publication, released on 10
November 2011, elaborates on the economics of nuclear
energy, technological developments like Small Nuclear Reactors
(SNRs), and Australia's economic opportunities within the nuclear
fuel cycle. It also outlines the capacity of nuclear power
generation to mitigate carbon emissions.
The second policy
perspective, Renewables and Efficiency, released on 15 May
2012, discusses options for assessing the viability
of renewables, possible energy sector models to increase efficiency
and policy options for renewables.
