Australia's growing population and
ageing demographic is an area that generates public concern. It's a
relevant issue that often intersects with a wide range of other
areas including healthcare, immigration, infrastructure provision,
and government service delivery.
CEDA is undertaking a significant research project into the issues
surrounding Australia's population. The research project,
A Greater Australia: Population, Policies and
Governance, will detail the linkages
between population, migration, economy, society and the
environment.
As part of this project CEDA will be engaging key thought leaders
to address governance failures that underpin popular concerns about
population growth and will put forward a series of innovative
policy reforms.
A Greater Australia: Population, Policies and
Governance, under the editorship of Professor Jonathan
Pincus and Graeme Hugo, will examine policies relating to ageing,
retirement and health, as well as alternative infrastructure and
urban planning frameworks. The report will develop alternate
approaches to key policy failings that have generated public
concern with population growth.
Coming up: Report to be released March 2012 in
Sydney.
