World Competitiveness Yearbook 2010
World Competitiveness Yearbook 2010
The Yearbook is one of the world's best-known independent
measures of global competitiveness. It is produced annually by IMD
in Switzerland, one of the world's top business schools, with the
help of CEDA and other international partners. Its rankings and
detailed country-by-country data are used by businesses and
governments around the world.
CEDA is delighted to have partnered with IMD for 21 years on the
production of Australia's country profile in the Yearbook. We
hope you find it of interest.
This year, Australia moved to 5th place of the 58 nations
included in the study, after ranking 7th for the past two years.
The rise points to the relative strength of the domestic economy
and its resilience to economic cycles. Strong Asian demand for
commodities underpinned the rise. However, it underscores the
critical need to maintain high levels of investment in the
resources and infrastructure sectors.

The 2010 rankings
For the first time in decades, Singapore (1) and Hong Kong (2)
pushed the US to third place. But, according to IMD, the three
countries are so close they can be defined as the leading
"trio".
