Position overview

The Media Manager and Content Specialist is responsible for leading, developing and executing high level media strategies aligned with CEDA’s purpose and ensuring we are recognised as Australia’s leading member-driven, economic think tank.
Leading a small team, this role will be responsible for delivering high quality media strategies, producing regular media releases, opinion pieces and speeches and overseeing the production of publications and content aligned with our research and policy objectives.
The role requires demonstrated experience in high level issues-based roles and the ability to synthesise complex ideas and provide creative solutions to ensure strong engagement with CEDA’s work.
This role will work closely with the research and policy team and in addition, programming and partnerships and collaboration.

Duties and responsibilities 

The Media Manager and Content Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Timely delivery and execution of high-quality media strategies.
  • Producing regular high-quality written material for CEDA’s leadership team for distribution to the media and CEDA’s members.
  • Overseeing delivery of CEDA publications and related policy material to deadlines.
  • Strengthen CEDA’s position as Australia’s leading economic think tank and our ability to influence public policy.
  • Building and enhancing strong working relationships with key media organisations and journalists.
  • Developing and executing strategies to raise the profile of key CEDA personnel including CEDA’s CEO, Chief Economist and Chairman.

Required qualifications and experience

  • Demonstrated interest and understanding of public policy and current affairs.
  • Highly developed experience as a journalist or a public relations practitioner.
  • Experience working in an issues rich policy environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in media relations and media strategy including risk identification and issues management.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills including exceptional attention to detail; copywriting and editing expertise and ability to synthesise complex technical information.
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing team members.
  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent in relevant discipline and a minimum 10 years’ experience.

  • Ability to work under time constraints and to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work systematically and with outstanding attention to detail.
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to liaise with all levels of management.
  • A self-starter who demonstrates initiative and an ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively across diverse teams and locations.
