Darren Foster


Darren Foster is a member of CEDA's State Advisory Council in Western Australia.
In April 2020, Darren Foster became Special Adviser on Economic Recovery in the Western Australian Treasury.
This followed three years as Director General at the Department of the Premier and Cabinet driving public sector reforms, including digital transformation, and delivering key Government social and economic policy commitments.
He has more than 30 years of public service experience gained at all levels of government overseeing a broad range of legislative, policy and cultural reforms in portfolios as diverse as Treasury, Energy, Racing and Gaming, Regional Development, Arts, Employment and Training, Health and Education. Darren has held senior roles at the Department of Fisheries, Office of the Environment Protection Authority and at the National Native Title Tribunal.

Darren served as an inaugural member of the Infrastructure Western Australia board and Westport Taskforce, a member of the market led proposals steering committee, and initiated the establishment of the Public Sector Leadership Council. He has served on numerous boards and committees over a long career, including Western Australia’s 175th Anniversary Steering Committee, the State’s Overseas Relations Committee and the Curtin University Governing Council.
Darren holds a Bachelor of Arts (Communication and Cultural Studies) and a Postgraduate Diploma of Arts (History) and is an alumnus of the Australian and New Zealand School of Government Executive Fellows Program. In 2018, he became the first Western Australian to receive the prestigious Sir James Wolfensohn Scholarship to study at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
