Event overview

Headwinds of change are flowing through the Australian economy, driven by the declaration that Australia is 'Open for Business. National productivity and economic growth have become increasingly constrained as cracks begin to appear in the foundations that have previously driven Australia's competitive advantage.

State of the Nation 2014 (SoN14) will look at the domestic reform agenda, Australia's place and priorities in the region and the regional economy, and hear from leaders of the world's biggest economies with the intention of uncovering whether Australia really is open for business.

At the national level, SoN14 will look at the sweeping reform agenda laid out to tackle domestic issues around the cost and efficiency of doing business in Australia. We will hear from financial leaders and the architects of the Son of Wallis Banking and Financial Sector Inquiry. Domestic policy and reforms around regulation and competition, federalism, taxation and foreign direct investment will be analysed by key representatives from government and the private sector. We will examine growing industries of the future - agriculture, resources and manufacturing - and the policy settings that encourage investment in those sectors will be analysed.

Australia's economic fortunes are inextricably linked to the global economy. SoN14 will look at how the slow recovery in Europe, the US and Asia is changing our growth outlook. And as representatives of the G20 head to Australia late in 2014, SoN14 will consider Australia's place in the region, looking at how we can leverage growth markets and what our trade and security priorities should be.

The 2013 conference sold out so register now to join CEDA members and business leaders from around the country for State of the Nation 2014.
