EVENT OVERVIEW

Electricity, sourced from fossil fuels, accounts for more than 40 per cent of the world's energy-related CO2 emissions. World energy demand is projected to grow by more than 40 per cent over the next two decades, thus, reducing CO2 emissions is a significant challenge and calls for international co-operation and commitment.

Although renewable energy technology continues to develop, fossil fuels, in particular coal, will continue to provide the bulk of the world's energy for the foreseeable future. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) of carbon dioxide could be part of the solution to harnessing fossil fuels while significantly reducing CO2 emissions to overcome the twin challenges of delivering clean and secure energy supplies.

CEDA is delighted to welcome international guest speaker Gerry Protti, Immediate Past Chair, Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) and Executive Director, Cenovus Energy, to share his international perspective on CCS developments in Canada. Gerry Protti will be joined by a distinguished expert industry panel to stimulate debate and facilitate knowledge exchange on new technologies, developments, and practices to accelerate CCS implementation.
