EVENT OVERVIEW

CEDA is honoured to welcome the Obama administration's chief advisor on America's recovery, G. Edward DeSeve, in his only speaking public engagement in Sydney. G. Edward DeSeve will provide invaluable insight into his experiences in driving the US economy out of the GFC under the topic of "Managing a Crisis".

MEET THE SPEAKER

G. Edward DeSeve
Special Advisor to the US President for Recovery and Implementation and
Guest Lecturer, Carnegie Mellon University - Australia

In March 2009, US President Barack Obama announced that G. Edward DeSeve would coordinate efforts at the Office of Management and Budget to implement the economic stimulus package to drive the US Economy out of the GFC.

In this position, Mr DeSeve served as a special advisor to President Obama and assistant Vice President Jo Biden, and focused on managing interagency efforts to address provisions of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. That work, the White House said, would compliment oversight efforts led by Earl Devaney, head of the Recovery Act Accountability and Transparency Board.

Previously, Mr DeSeve served as Managing Director of Merrill Lynch Capital Markets. He was a Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, Senior Fellow at the University of Maryland and CEO of Strategy and Solution Partners. He was Deputy Director for management at OMB during the latter part of President Clinton's team in office. During Mr DeSeve's tenure, he was a key player in coordinating the federal response to the Y2K computer issue.

Before serving at OMB, Mr DeSeve was the Chief Financial Officer at the Department of Housing and Urban Development from 1993 to 1994. Prior to that, he worked in the Financial Services Industry in the private sector. Mr DeSeve also has worked for the City of Philadelphia and as a Special Assistant to Pennsylvania Governor Robert Casey.
