Recent years have seen an extraordinary concentration of severe weather events that have tested our national resilience to natural disaster. These include the devastating events in Queensland and Victoria this past summer, the Black Saturday bushfires, Tropical Cyclone Larry, and hailstorms in Perth and Melbourne that caused billions of dollars of damage.

In this major address, Managing Director and CEO of Insurance Australia Group, Mike Wilkins, will outline a recommended approach for building our national resilience to such disasters, including the role of insurers, adaptation and reforms to planning and taxation.

In the context of the current National Disaster Insurance Review, Mr Wilkins will argue it is imperative we take comprehensive action now to protect our national economy from the significant and growing risk posed by natural perils.
