The latest Fraser Institute Annual Survey of Mining Companies 2011-12 ranks NSW 32nd out of 93 global jurisdictions in the policy potential index - a "report card" to governments on the attractiveness of their mining policies.

In contrast, in the 2012-13 State Budget, the NSW Government announced increased budget allocations to the New Frontiers program and $27.3m for drilling, research and development of low emissions technologies. Most recently the NSW Government announced that a new Land and Water Commissioner will be appointed by the end of the year.

So how do we, businesses, government and investors, continue to expand the mining sector which contributes over $1.2 billion to the NSW economy (2010-11 figures) and is predicted to grow to $8.5 billion over the next four years?

CEDA brings together a panel of recognised thinkers for this timely luncheon to explore:

  • State Government policy settings
  • Barriers facing the industry
  • Sharing the benefits of the ongoing strength of the resources
  • Managing and prospering from the boom: A look at direct and indirect employment growth and available capital to support State infrastructure
  • Beyond coal: Opportunities and growth for metals and minerals
  • Attracting capital: What does NSW have to offer resource investors and foreign investors?
  • The flow on effects to other sectors, like the mining technology services sector, which has grown dramatically and represents $8-9bn annually to the economy.
