CEDA welcomes the Hon. Stuart Ayres to open the 2018 Western Sydney growth series, to share his portfolio priorities to maximise Government investment in Western Sydney.

Event overview

Over a quarter of the NSW population lives in Western Sydney and it continues to grow at a faster pace than the rest of the State.

Significant investments have already been made in the region to accommodate anticipated growth, including important infrastructure such as the construction of Western Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek and major capital works to improve road and rail capacity.

The CEDA NSW Western Sydney growth series returns to examine what is needed to fuel the next wave of investment in the region. This event will explore:   

  • NSW Government Policy priorities the continued development of the Western Sydney region;
  • Investment in city shaping infrastructure projects that will accommodate currently levels of economic growth and provide for future prosperity; and
  • Business investment in Western Sydney to drive jobs growth and economic prosperity.

Meet the keynote speaker

The Hon. Stuart Ayres
Minister for Western Sydney, Minister for WestConnex, and Minister for Sport

Stuart Ayres was elected to the NSW Legislative Assembly in 2010, representing the electorate of Penrith. Stuart took the previously safe Labor seat on a 25.7 point swing – at the time the largest swing against a sitting government in New South Wales history.

Since his election, Stuart has held the positions of Parliamentary Secretary for Western Sydney Minister for Fair Trading and Minister Assisting the Premier on Western Sydney and Minister for Police and Emergency Services.

In March 2015 Stuart became the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport. Stuart drove exceptional levels of growth in attracting tourism and major events to the state in addition to ensuring internationally, NSW remained ‘Open for Business’.

On 30 January 2017, Stuart assumed the role of Minister for WestConnex, Minister for Western Sydney and Minister for Sport. More than just new and improved travel options, WestConnex will also create more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs and provide training, education and employment opportunities to thousands of people. Also responsible for the State Government’s delivery of Western Sydney Airport and the Western Sydney City Deal, Stuart has been granted a once in a two generation opportunity to have a direct impact on the future of his community.

As a passionate resident of Western Sydney, his role ahead is to ensure nation building infrastructure like WestConnex and the new airport continue to drive economic prosperity for all Australians.
