Transport Infrastructure series: removing barriers

Transport Infrastructure series: removing barriers

QLD

This event was a success and well received by the audience.

Not building a well-planned, efficient and safe freight and logistics network will be expensive. It would further constrain miners, manufacturers and farmers and can cost the Australian economy tens of billions in lost export earnings.

Event overview

CEDA's 2013 Queensland Transport Infrastructure series focuses on 'moving things'. It is forecast that Australian freight volumes will double in less than 20 years. The transport infrastructure -ports, rail and roads - to support growth to meet future demand is critical.

Government and industry agree on the need to fix regulatory and infrastructure failures that have restricted growth and efficiency. Further barriers include the need for a cohesive pipeline of infrastructure development and alternate new infrastructure investment approaches.

What are the new solutions and the new approaches? Where will efficiency, connectedness and infrastructure investment improvements be made?

To open this discussion and the 2013 Queensland Transport Infrastructure series, CEDA welcomes Lance Hockridge, CEO of Aurizon. Aurizon is Australia's largest rail freight company transporting over 250 million tonnes of freight every year, and now a $6 billion deal to build a new rail and port network. Lance will share his views on transport infrastructure policy, investment and our short and long run needs to meet demand.

With national and state productivity growth reliant on transport networks efficiency CEDA's 2013 two-part Transport Infrastructure Series presents leading thinking at a time of change.
