Australia's capital cities account for over 80 per cent of the nation's economic activity and are where the bulk of our population reside.

But how are our capital cities placed to meet future challenges and growth?

  • Are functions of transport, economic development and land use really integrated in ways that are complementary and consistent?
  • Are investment frameworks taking full account of land economics and the private sector?
  • What can we do to get better at implementing long term plans, and achieving results in our cities?

Given their importance, COAG agreed to an objective for reform of capital city strategic planning to create productive, sustainable and liveable capital cities of the future.

The COAG Reform Council was asked to review the whole strategic planning system of each Australian capital city against criteria agreed by COAG.

The review was publicly released on 2 April 2012. (Click here to read the report.) CEDA and the COAG Reform Council invites your participation at a series of forums to discuss the recommendations with members of the council, the review's expert advisory panel and important stakeholders.
