EVENT OVERVIEW
With the unprecedented annual population growth in Victoria, investment into the public transport system is a priority to ensure a safe, accessible and inclusive network. The Victorian Government has included more than $38 billion in projects to meet the demands of a growing state with investments into new trains, tracks, trams, buses and extensions to the suburban and rural rail network.
Much will be expected of the new operators of Melbourne's beleaguered public transport system. Urban congestion, maintenance and workforce issues will be just some of the challenges faced by those who triumphed in the state government's tender process - KDR (trading as Yarra Trams) and Metro Trains Melbourne. The challenge and task at hand is to deliver a service which is safe, reliable, punctual and convenient as part of an integrated multi-model transport network. More importantly, to maintain an efficient service that matches the growing demand of infrastructure and consumer requirements.
Will the change be for the better, in the eyes of business, government and public transport users?
CEDA's forum provides the opportunity to hear from the new operators and experts on their plans for the future and to participate in discussions around the developing need of public transport infrastructure and investment in Victoria.
