Over the next 20 years, it is estimated that Australia will need an additional $120 billion worth of new electricity generation assets to meet increased demand for energy, as the economy grows on the back of the mining boom, strong exports and private consumption. Perhaps even more startling, is the fact that unless new investment takes place, NSW will have an energy shortfall by 2016-2017, QLD by 2013-2014 and in Victoria and SA by 2015-2016.

This CEDA forum will explore the following issues:

  • Climate policy and the implications for investment in the sector.
  • Future capacity demands, investment needs and challenges.
  • Network planning.

At this event, CEDA brings together a range of experts to discuss Australia's energy challenges, looking at energy policy, the national energy market and the regulatory environment. We will hear a variety of perspectives on the national energy sector, discussing the challenges in securing investment for the sector, the level of demand for energy, capacity constraints and network planning.
