OVERVIEW
This third event in CEDA's Cost of Carbon Series will reflect on how climate change policies will impact households and in particular, the disadvantaged and low income groups, in terms of higher costs for energy and other essentials. An interview dialogue with an expert panel plus audience discussion will provide a platform to explore the announced compensation and welfare measures to ensure social inequality is not worsened.
MEET THE FACILITATOR
Richard Aedy
Presenter, ABC Radio
Richard Aedy is Presenter of ABC Radio National's Life Matters, a unique daily interview program about social change and day to day life. He frequently talks to the main people behind our social policies. Richard has been a journalist for over 17 years, beginning his career in New Zealand and later with the BBC, where he was an award winning program director. He joined Radio National in 1998, firstly as an Executive Producer before returning to broadcasting.
MEET THE PANELLISTS
Patricia Faulkner AO
Chair, Social Inclusion Board and Advisor, Multi Party Climate Change Committee
Patricia Faulkner AO has had an extensive career covering both the public and private sectors. She was appointed an Expert Advisor to the Multi Party Climate Change Committee, where she provides advice on the impacts of climate change policy on the more disadvantaged people in our community. Patricia is also the chair of the Australian Social Inclusion Board.
Professor John Thwaites
Chair, Monash Sustainability Institute and ClimateWorks Australia
John Thwaites is a Professorial Fellow at Monash University. He chairs a project with the Brotherhood of St Laurence to develop policies to assist low-income Australians cope with the impact of climate change and chaired a joint Brotherhood of St Laurence/KPMG Report on a national energy efficiency program for low income households. He was Deputy Premier of Victoria from 1999 until his retirement in 2007.
