Event overview

The Australian Government's 2012 Energy White Paper highlighted the difficulty government's face in addressing the cause of energy price rises. The energy efficiency question is only one of a combination of factors contributing to retail electricity price increases of over 40 per cent in the past three years.

Understanding these complex drivers of energy prices requires a holistic look at contributing factors including:

  • The contribution of monopoly network service providers to electricity price rises;
  • The regulation of distribution networks and distribution businesses;
  • What reliability standards should look like and where responsibility for them should sit;
  • Network investment decisions and the impact on prices; and
  • Managing peak demand and consumer education.

Better regulation, investment decisions and consumer engagement will result in a more efficient sector. Join CEDA for the second event in the 2013 Victorian Energy series.
