Event overview
Melbourne is experiencing a growing distinction between metropolitan, growth/fringe areas and regional centres with each becoming economic zones in their own right. To avoid social dislocation and divides, connecting and integrating Victoria's regions will be critical to the overall success of Victoria's Metropolitan Planning Strategy.
The challenge for government and policy-makers at all levels is to ensure investment in Victoria's future is responsive to the needs of communities across the state but also to enhance Australia's aggregate productivity and economic growth prospects.
In considering the economic case for Melbourne's future planning, this event will:
- Ask how Melbourne's planning decisions impact national growth and what role cities will play in national prosperity;
- Look at investment and allocation decisions to maximise economic return in capital constrained times;
- Discuss equity and affordability in Melbourne; and
- Look at the interaction and integration of metro Melbourne, growth areas and regional Victoria.
Balancing plans for Victoria's future with local needs and the macro picture will require a careful approach. Join CEDA for this important discussion.
