Event overview

With over $1.5 trillion in invested funds, Australia's superannuation sector is already bigger than the total market cap of the Australian stock market. And it is growing at an exponential rate.

Superannuation contributions have risen from three per cent in 1992 when the superannuation guarantee was introduced to nine per cent today, with increases estimated to reach 12 per cent over the next three years. This equates to more money being invested in managed funds per capita than any other developed economy. With value increasing and estimates that the system will have $7 trillion in assets by 2028, the impact of the superannuation sector on individual wealth accumulation, capital markets, debt markets and even the Australian economy, could be enormous.

Superannuation is an important sector to the economy and continues to see many changes, including:

  • Proposed regulatory and taxation changes recently announced by the government;
  • Rise in self-managed super funds (SMSFs);
  • Massive increase in superannuation assets; and
  • Ongoing debate about increasing the level of investment into infrastructure projects across Australia.

Will these changes enhance or hamper the financial stability and economic growth of Australia?

Please join CEDA as a panel of experts discuss and debate the future challenges of the Australian superannuation industry.
