EVENT OVERVIEW

Continuing structural change in the Australian economy more broadly has impacted state and local economies as business and industry are forced to adapt.

Geelong has seen significant change to its industry profile, with recent announcements including ceasing of production at Ford and the arrival of the National Disability Insurance Scheme offices, demonstrating two very different outlooks for the regional economy.

While conditions are challenging, there are also broad opportunities for the region to re-tool and re-skill for the future, although what that future looks like remains unclear. This CEDA event will explore how Victoria's second largest city can:

  • Embrace economic change through effective planning and transition strategies;
  • Re-skill and create new competitive advantages; and
  • Identify new markets to grow productivity and efficiency in the digital age.
