EVENT OVERVIEW

There is no question that Brendon Grylls and the Royalties for Regions plan have succeeded in putting country people back on the political map in the short period since the 2008 state election.

Through this historic agreement, the equivalent of 25 per cent of the State's mining and petroleum royalty revenue (up to a maximum of $1 billion) will be reinvested in regional Western Australia's infrastructure, services and community projects.  The eighteen month mark into the Liberal-Nationals alliance government provides a good opportunity to step back and look at the successes and challenges the program faces.

Join CEDA on March 31st for a discussion with the Minister and Leader of the WA Nationals Party on Opportunities for economic and social development in WA.

MEET THE SPEAKER

Hon Brendon Grylls MLA, Minister for Regional Development; Lands; Minister Assisting the Minister for State Development; Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport; Parliamentary Leader of The Nationals WA

The Hon Brendon Grylls was elected to State Parliament when he won a by-election for the seat of Merredin in 2001 and became the Leader of the Nationals WA in July 2005. Following the 2008 election he led the party into a power sharing alliance with the Liberals.

In the lead up to the September 2008 election, Brendon and The Nationals WA campaigned on the Royalties for Regions plan which captured the imagination of regional WA and now underpins the Liberal -National Government.

The Royalties for Regions program is transforming communities from Kununurra to Esperance and ensuring radical upgrades in vital services, including health.

Brendon 's vision is to draw on Royalties for Regions funding to establish thriving communities right across regional Western Australia where industry and business can invest with confidence and where families are encouraged to settle permanently because they have ready access to  affordable housing, education and  modern health services.

Born on the 5 June 1973, Brendon was educated first at Corrigin and then to boarding school at Wesley College. He is married to Susan and they have two young sons Thomas and Oliver.
