Meet the speakers

Alex Bates
Regional Senior Vice President, Newmont Goldcorp Australia

Alex Bates was appointed Regional Senior Vice President of Newmont Goldcorp Australia in April 2017. Alex joined Newmont Goldcorp in 2015 as General Manager of Newmont Goldcorp Boddington Gold. Prior to joining Newmont Goldcorp, Alex was General Manager of Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Brockman Region. He started in iron ore as General Manager Yandicoogina Operations in February 2011 after many years of experience in leadership roles across the resources industry all over the world including Phalaborwa, Cape Town, London, Montreal and Brisbane. Alex has 25 years of experience in the resources industry and served as a Director on the Board of the Gumala Aboriginal Corporation. Alex is a member of the Board of the Minerals Council of Australia. Raised in Wales and Namibia, Alex studied Engineering in Cape Town and moved to Australia in 2004.

Tania Constable PSM
Chief Executive Officer, Minerals Council of Australia

Tania Constable PSM, joined the Minerals Council of Australia in July 2018 where she is proud to promote and advocate for a strong, vibrant and innovative minerals industry in Australia. She was awarded the Public Service Medal in 2014 for outstanding public service in the development of Australia’s liquefied natural gas and other resource and energy industries.

Barry McGuire
Managing Director, Redspear Engineering Safety

Barry McGuire is a Balladong, Wadjuk Noongar who is highly regarded as a public speaker, facilitator and negotiator. Barry has worked as a consultant and cultural advisor on a range of strategic projects across the corporate, mining and oil and gas sectors as well as Local, State and Federal Government structures. In addition to his role as Managing Director of Redspear Safety and Safespear, he continues to play an active role in community development across Perth. This allows him to exercise his passion for the promotion and sharing of cultural understanding across all industries.

Meg O'Neill
Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, Woodside

Meg O’Neill joined Woodside in May 2018 following 23 years global oil and gas experience with the ExxonMobil group, including positions in Indonesia, Norway, Canada and the USA.
