Event overview

Following the Financial Services Royal Commission, CEDA Trustees are invited to join in a conversation with ASIC Deputy Chair, Karen Chester, to gain a regulator’s perspective on the outcomes of the Commission and expectations into the future.  Karen will outline what it means for the financial services sector and broader economy, and importantly how the sector can do the right thing into the future.

This briefing is by invitation only to CEDA Trustees. Trustees are senior leaders nominated by CEDA member organisations. Meet the speaker

Karen Chester
Deputy Chair, Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)

Karen Chester commenced as an ASIC Deputy Chair on 29 January 2019. Before joining ASIC, Karen was a Commissioner at the Productivity Commission since 2013 and Deputy Chair since May 2016.

Previously, Karen was a Partner at Mercer and Global Head of Infrastructure. Before joining Mercer, Karen was a Partner at Access Capital Advisers and the CEO of Access Economics. Karen has held directorships on several Australian infrastructure company boards.

Before moving to the private sector, Karen held senior economic policy roles in the Australian Treasury and the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Karen has a first class honours degree in Economics from the University of Queensland and was awarded an honorary doctorate in Economics by the University in 2017. She is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Con Paoliello
Director, Tax Services, RSM Australia Pty Ltd

Con Paoliello is a Director of the Tax Services division and Managing Partner of Perth. Con has over 25 years’ experience at both a national and international level in providing taxation advice and specialist tax consulting services. 

Con specialises in advising public companies (listed and unlisted), large private enterprises and high net wealth individuals however he has also acquired significant experience in other professional disciplines (Business Recovery, Management Consulting and Project Management).

Con joined RSM in 2003, was admitted into the partnership of RSM in 2005, was RSM’s National Head of Tax from 2012 through to 2016 and was elected as Managing Partner in Perth in January 2016. Prior to joining RSM, Con gained exposure in commerce at the executive management level of a public company and prior to that was an Account Director at a large international accounting firm.
