Defence Innovation: South Australia's Advantage

Jim McDowell, Deputy Secretary, Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment, Federal Department of Defence, addressed CEDA’s Adelaide audience about South Australia’s defence innovation advantage. McDowell also discussed the Defence Industry Development Strategy (DIDS), a framework for the future direction of defence policy, which he said would help to guide, “an important decade in Australia’s national security.”

With Australia set to make a generational investment in its security capabilities, Professor Katrina Falkner Executive Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology, The University of Adelaide and Sumen Rai, Director, Defence Innovation Partnership, also provided their insights on the socio-economic benefits and challenges arising from the nation’s defence investments.
