CEDA recently hosted a discussion on the National Electricity Market (NEM) review and firming up Australia's energy transition. Audiences heard directly from Associate Prof Tim Nelson, Chair of the NEM Review, who spoke about defining the NEM, the key challenges facing the market, and draft reccomendations which included:
- Requiring price responsive resources to be visible;
- Building a process for industry to define derivative contracts suitable for a firmed renewables system;
- Having energy ministers establish an Electricity Services Entry Mechanism (ESEM) within the NEL to facilitate investment in the NEM.
Audiences also heard from Ian Learmonth, Chief Executive Officer, Clean Energy Finance Corporation; Nadine Lennie, Chief Financial Officer, Transgrid and Violette Mouchaileh Executive General Manager Policy and Corporate Affairs, AEMO on their insights and response to the review.
