In January 1991, CEDA explored what could be done to ensure adequate and financially sustainable preparations were in place to meet the demands of an ageing population.
Released a year before superannuation became compulsory, CEDA released Australia’s ageing population: how are we preparing?
This report recommended establishing a taskforce to cater to the needs of women in retirement as they are more likely to be disadvantaged than men and called for a universal superannuation scheme for all workers. The report also recommended encouraging home ownership given the importance of housing in alleviating poverty in old age.
