Mr Weatherill's announcement follows the release of a report by the Economic Development Board in South Australia (SA).

On 11 August 2014, the Economic Development Board also released the summary of it's Top 10 Identified Actions for the SA economy as part of the Shaping the Future of SA program.

The program was sparked by a CEDA Trustees meeting in November 2013, where His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce, AC CSC RANR called upon CEDA Trustee members to help address the current challenges facing South Australia.

In response, Shaping the Future of SA foundation partners BankSA, CEDA, Flinders University, the SA Department of State Development and KPMG developed a program to help inform decision making.

The Program was designed to deliver actions that can, with appropriate political support and energy, be quickly implemented broadly within the existing resource base.

After consultation with over 2500 people and seven events, the final report was delivered to the Economic Development Board (SA) by the foundation partners, with a summary publically available online.

The report's summary includes the Top 10 identified actions. They are:

  1. Create a vision for South Australia;
  2. Improve South Australia's inbound and outbound trade;
  3. Reduce the burden of regulation to drive economic growth;
  4. Unlock funding to grow South Australian business;
  5. Strengthen linkages between business, universities, research institutions and government to drive innovation;
  6. Create roundtables for South Australia's strategic growth industries;
  7. Skill business leaders to grow globally competitive businesses;
  8. Commercialise more intellectual property;
  9. Maximise the effective use of South Australia's existing infrastructure; and
  10. Increase skilled migration to South Australia.
