At CEDA’s Climate and Energy Summit 2026, 300+ leaders from across business, government and the energy system came together in Melbourne to tackle one of the defining economic transformations of our time: how to deliver reliable, affordable and clean energy in an increasingly volatile world.

Across a full day of discussion, the focus shifted firmly from ambition to execution, exploring how Australia can accelerate emissions reduction, strengthen energy security, and unlock the economic opportunities of the green transition.

Speakers included VIC Minister for Climate Action, Energy and Resources, the Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio; Climate Change Authority Chair, the Hon. Matt Kean; Chief Executive Officer Clean Energy Council, the Hon. Jackie Trad; Advisor and former Chief Executive Officer Principles for Responsible Investment, David Atkin and Chevron Australia President, Balaji Krishnamurthy.

Across the day, a clear theme emerged: achieving net zero will require coordinated action across markets, communities and institutions, alongside innovation and long-term commitment. This aligns strongly with CEDA’s Progress 2050 vision, which also positions climate adaptation and the energy transition as central to Australia’s long-term prosperity and resilience.

“In any case, projects that will take years, perhaps even a decade to build won't address any near-term energy constraints. So, let's look at the cleaner, cheaper alternatives that are already raring and ready to go right now.”

Australia's energy transition is now a delivery challenge, and it needs portfolio-level thinking

Australia’s energy transition is intended to build a more secure and self-reliant system. But the central challenge in the transition is no longer policy, but delivery – and addressing it will require portfolio-level thinking.
