“2018 is being used to reposition CEDA’s research agenda,” CEDA Chief Executive, Melinda Cilento said.
“Each year CEDA undertakes an annual program of research with four significant publications released over the course of the year, in addition to the Economic and Political Overview.
“A different approach has been adopted for the 2018 research program.
“The intention is to undertake research this year that will assist CEDA in determining several key themes of work to pursue over a number of years.
“How unequal? Insights on inequality, will be released on 20 April 2018 and is the first piece in CEDA’s 2018 research agenda that will examine the purpose of economic growth and development.
“Australia has experienced 26 years of continuous economic growth, a record which is the envy of many other nations. Yet, there is growing debate about the benefits of this economic growth and their distribution, and the extent to which inequality is increasing in Australia.
“This report examines the distribution of benefits from Australia’s prolonged period of economic growth; if inequality has increased in Australia; and policy interventions that could assist.
“Subsequent CEDA work in 2018 will examine community attitudes to economic growth and development; and a review of the purpose of economic growth and development in Australia.
“This work will reflect CEDA’s purpose and vision, and form the backbone of CEDA’s future agenda.”
