South32 Chief Technical Officer Dr Vanessa Torres has been appointed as CEDA’s WA SAC President effective 1 October 2022 and will therefore also be joining the CEDA Board of Directors.
Vanessa has been South32’s Chief Technical Officer since July 2020. She has more than 30 years of global mining experience across multiple jurisdictions and is responsible for South32’s innovation and technology, projects, technical stewardship, global business services and global Health, Safety and Environment teams.
Vanessa takes over from Rebecca Tomkinson who is starting a new role as the CEO of the Chamber of Minerals and Energy WA and is leaving the CEDA WA SAC and Board at the end of September.
Rebecca has been the CEDA WA SAC President, Board Director and member of CEDA’s People and Governance Committee since April 2020.
“I am thrilled to welcome Vanessa,” says CEDA CEO Melinda Cilento.
“Her expertise across technology and innovation will be invaluable, especially as WA continues to leverage the opportunities in the resources sector more broadly.
“I would also like to acknowledge and thank Rebecca for the strong leadership and invaluable contribution she has made during her time as WA SAC President and as a Board Member. CEDA wishes her all the best in her new role.”
High-profile business leader Diane Smith-Gander AO has taken the reins as Chairman following CEDA’s AGM.
