The economics of sport in Tasmania

CEDA's Tasmanian audience recently heard from an expert panel who discussed how major infrastructure projects like the new stadium precinct could generate hundreds of millions in economic activity, support thousands of jobs during construction and operation, and boost tourism and local businesses.

The event also discussed the socio-economic impacts of sports participation, community engagement, and the role of elite locally-based teams such as the Tassie Devils and the JackJumpers in driving grassroots growth and brand exposure for Tasmania.

Speakers included:
- James Avery, Chief Executive Officer, Stadiums Tasmania
- Christine Finnegan, Chief Executive Officer, Tasmania JackJumpers
- Professor Tim Harcourt, Chief Economist, Centre for Sport, Business and Society, UTS,  Author, Footynomics, the Business of Sport
- Nick Riewoldt, Partner, PMY Group, Member Advisory Board, BGIS
- Mark Bowles, Dean and Head of School, Tasmanian School of Business and Economics, University of Tasmania
